Onyx & Amber 10 Year Rye 146.2 Proof Drums & Drams "O Tanninbomb"

On the nose, Christmas spices, molasses, and dark chocolate bring an aromatic quality to this whiskey’s very leather-forward profile. There are remnants of candied fruit notes similar to the other barrel we picked that day (called Mile High Electrolytes), but in a much smaller amount. Even though it’s a darker profile, the rye notes still do come through. On the palate, there are dehydrated red fruits, but leather is the main note. The leather doesn’t present in the familiar aged Beam or Heaven Hill way, though—it’s more like the leather found in the 18 year Barton barrels from last year. Intense forever finish of leather and spice. It just goes on and on!

It’s pretty cool to not only get something bottled at over 146 proof, but for it to be a 10 year Kentucky rye that has a profile with extra aged notes. That said, it’s extremely intense whiskey—a fun pour, but not for the faint of heart!
