John Edwards was elected Kentucky’s 2nd U.S. Senator on June 18, 1792, the same day that John Brown became the 1st Senator from the Bluegrass state. Both were elected by the state legislature. A Virginian by birth, Edwards settled in Bourbon County, leaving the U.S. Senate in 1795 to return home to serve in both the Kentucky House and Senate. Like fellow Virginia natives Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, he was a Democratic-Republican. He is buried in Paris, Kentucky.
