Russell's Reserve Single Barrel

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel

$69.99

Aromas of oak, cinnamon spice, vanilla pound cake predominate, with orange peel, coconut macaroon and grain notes playing a secondary role. On the palate, this is a flavorful, multilayered whiskey, with an initial hit of alcohol burn and a strong cinnamon and oak note giving way to vanilla, almond, toasted coconut, and mint before the cinnamon and baking spice notes return. The finish is long and enjoyable, with a distinct apple pie note followed by oak, baking spices, chocolate and finally, freshly baked snickerdoodle cookies before dissipating.

Shortbarrel Mezcal Finished Whiskey

Shortbarrel Mezcal Finished Whiskey

$59.99

What happens when a mezcal barrel meets a 5 ½-year-old Kentucky American Whiskey for 8 months … The result - a perfectly balanced blend of Kentucky and Oaxaca flavors that highlights the dark, rich oak of aged whiskey and the bright vanilla and citrus notes of mezcal - with just the right amount of smoke. Bottled at 111 proof, El Jefe balances strong, smooth, and sweet.

Shortbarrel is proud to bring to life this unique blend of flavors that pushes the boundaries of finished whiskey. Consisting of only 4 barrels, this super small batch American Whiskey is a blend of 5 ½-year-old Kentucky Straight American Whiskey (91% corn, 9% malted barley) finished for 8 months in ex-reposado mezcal barrels.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Sweet American Whiskey upfront with a gentle hint of smokey mezcal (almost woody) on the first nose. Slight notes of vanilla, charred orange, pepper, sweet corn, and herbal background.

Mouth: Orange’s, smooth creamy vanilla, honey, cinnamon spice, very bright citrus keeps going and going. This is 111 proof after all. Even with the proof, this offer’s up a buttery-like taste because of the 91% corn in the mashbill. The smokey flavor is there but not overpowering. The smoke shows up more with an ice cube in the glass which also enhances the normally known mezcal finish you would expect.

Finish: The extra time in the barrel helped here and so does the proof. This is one of those finishes that will make you want to grab a second/third glass as you try to figure out the nose and mouthfeel on this. The finish is long as you would expect from a 111 proof whiskey but it’s not a punch in the chest. This finish whiskey is creamy, almost buttery at times, the mezcal impact becomes increasingly evident as the warming finish develops, adding nuance to a palate that finds room for all the tasting notes.

Final notes: This mezcal finish was made to be drunk neat, with a cube or in a cocktail. We highly recommend adding a small ice cube or a drop of water to this whiskey to really let the finish shine. At this proof, mixologists should have a great time coming up with new and exciting recipes. Salud! to high standards and great friends. Shortbarrel hopes you enjoy this whiskey as much as we did experimenting with it.

Three Chord Blended Bourbon

Three Chord Blended Bourbon

$49.99

We use the best aged White American Oak staves from the Ozarks in Missouri at the Independent Stave Company. We selected a cooperage to assemble our barrels in Louisville, Kentucky that has 55 years of time-tested coopering techniques. All Three Chord Bourbons are aged in Number 4 Char (Alligator) barrels. We filter our water through reverse osmosis, one-micron filter that creates the cleanest, purest water possible. The longer whiskey ages, the more the wood takes over the flavor profile. Our 12-year-old whiskey in the blend helps create that smooth, refined finish. Our secondary, controlled, wood-charring process reintroduces compounds that create the maple syrup, caramel and vanilla character that consumers love. This secondary char is light, called a “toast”. We bottle our 100% blended bourbon 300 gallons at a time, for a consistent flavor profile and quality taste.

Three Chord Bourbon 12yr Barrel Proof

Color: Gold Nose: The nose is very unique in that it has the tradition notes of caramel and cinnamon but also has notes of minerals and dried dates. Palate: The palate follows the nose and has notes of caramel and cinnamon, but the overwhelming notes are of minerals and the Flintstone vitamin. The bourbon has a medium viscosity but tastes much hotter than the proof would indicate. Finish: The bourbon has a medium finish with the main notes of caramel and cinnamon; however, there is an astringency that lingers and is unpleasant.

Town Branch Bourbon

Town Branch Bourbon

$27.00

One of bourbon's most distinctive qualities comes from the limestone water that brought bourbon to popularity in the 1800s. The name, Town Branch, commemorates the body of water that currently runs under Lexington, on which Lexington was founded. The bourbon is aged in new, charred white oak barrels. The nose is sweet with fruit and butterscotch followed by mild oak and sawdust. The sweetness stays throughout, with caramel, bananas, bread, and a mild burn.

The whiskey has a caramel color with a beautiful deep golden hue. Baled hay and pumpkin seeds on the nose with subtle notes of ripe stone fruit and caramel corn. Bold and spicy upfront then mellows with sweet caramel and maple, like biting into an oatmeal raisin cookie. The finish is long and rich. It lingers pleasantly sweet on the palate with notes of vanilla after the spice dissipates.
